A wildfire destroyed over three-dozen homes and buildings on Saturday in the Eastern Sierra leading to the evacuation of two towns. The wildfire burned over 7,000 acres.
According to Cal Fire, the wildfire named the Round Fire was 50% contained as of late Saturday afternoon. Cal Fire said that the wildfire destroyed at least 20 homes and structures in the town of Swall Meadows. There were no details available about the other structures.
Around 200 fire personnel were trying to extinguish the fire together with more than a dozen agencies. The agencies included Inyo County Sheriff’s Department, the California Highway Patrol and Paradise Fire Department.
The fire broke out just after 2 pm and was spread by strong winds that made the control difficult. According to officials, a strong storm system moving through the area brought rain, which made the fire personnel’s work easy. An evacuation center has also been made at the Crowley Lake Community Center in Mono County. Reason behind the break out of fire is unclear yet.
Fire crews have boosted containment of a wind driven wildfire, which destroyed 40 homes. However, according to them, it is not known yet when inhabitants evacuated from two small California towns at the eastern base of the Sierra Nevada will be able to get back home.
