Congress in on recess through Labor Day, and members are in their home districts connecting with constituents. The August recess is a great time to meet with your House ember and let him or her know what’s important to you. With the House planning to re-launch Highway Bill negotiations in September, the time is ripe to let your House member know that Truck Weight Reform is important to your business.
What can you do?
1) Meet with your House member in his or her District Office, and make the case for Truck Weight Reform. Download FRA’s one-pager as a drop-off at: https://www.forestresources.org/fra/TruckWeight-IssueUpdateJuly2015.pdf
2) Invite your House member on a tour of your facility—or to visit a logging job—and let him or her know your priorities right on your turf. Invite Congressional staff along, too.
3) Send your House member a letter advocating truck weight reform, using FRA’s “Write Your Legislators” module. It’s easy—follow this link to get started: https://www.forestresources.org/issue_alert.asp?g=FRA_ACTION&issue=truck_weight_reform&parent=FRA_ACTION
4) Place an op-ed in your local newspaper advocating the importance of truck weight reform—to raise the issue’s visibility and credibility locally. Contact FRA’s Neil Ward (nward@forestresources.org) if you need a model truck weight op-ed or other support.
In-district contacts from constituents are very effective ways of building the support your priorities need in Washington, DC. FRA encourages all members to make use of the opportunity!
