Maine Biofuels Plant Permitting In Process
Officials with the Castlerock Biofuels plant in Millinocket, Maine say permitting is in process and much of the engineering complete for the “biocrude” manufacturing plant that will produce 20 million gallons of institutional and commercial fuel annually. Built on the site of the former Great Northern Paper mill, the facility is projected to utilize 300,000 green tons of biomass material a year.
Castlerock Biofuels CEO John Murphy is excited that local landowners support the project and studies show feedstock availability that exceeds the plant’s needs. The $200 million plant is scheduled for commercial operation in 2027.
