Minnesota Loggers Deliver 300 Cords For Log A Load
Dozens of Minnesota loggers and companies came together in July to donate their time and skills and the proceeds of their efforts to the Gillette Children’s Hospital in the Twin Cities as part of the Minnesota Timber Producers Assn.’s (TPA) Log A Load For Kids program, in the group’s annual fundraising project that truly embodies the original idea that’s now a national movement for the logging industry, to literally “log a load for kids.”
According to a report in the TPA Timber Bulletin, Scheff Logging’s CTL crew and Lovdahl and Sons’ conventional crew operated the job, on a UPM Blandin tract in Balsam Township that produced roughly 300 cords. More than two dozen companies were involved in the project, hauling the mostly pine and aspen timber to five different destinations including Rayonier, Sappi, PCA, Savanna Pallets and UPM Blandin. Overall, more than 60 people participated, including . “We’ve been working on this for several months,” said Alex Kennedy, chair of the TPA’s Log A Load for Kids Committee and co-owner off Kennedy Logging. “From the gravel to put in this road, to the fuel we’re using in the machines everything is donated.” Organizers estimate more than $100,000 was raised by the project.
